“Of course, it could not be accomplished without the cooperation of community members wanting a safer place to raise families.”

McKay notes that the index is just one of several tools used to understand local crime trends, inform intelligence-led policing, and guide operational priorities.

Recent initiatives by Maskwacis RCMP include:

* From April 1 to date, the Maskwacis RCMP has seized close to 30 illegal firearms, some of which were homemade.

* Maskwacis General Duty with the General Investigation Section (GIS) has been proactively in the community working hand in hand on addressing public safety and following up with Crime Stopper tips.

* Maskwacis has partnered up with the local radio station on a bi-weekly “Ride along with the RCMP” radio show in sharing information with the public.

* Maskwacis has partnered with the Crime Stoppers campaign, allowing the public to report anonymously; also partnered with the Rural Organized Crime Team (ROCT).

* Maskwacis attends HUB meetings with all the nations to collaboratively assist high-risk individuals to seek a better path forward with wraparound services.
