The index measures both the number of crimes compared to population and the relative severity of all police-reported crimes.

Meanwhile, the conventional crime rate, tracking the volume of crimes regardless of their severity, edged down two per cent in 2025, the Canadian Press noted.

In Red Deer, the overall crime severity rating went down from 118.35 to 114.36, a decrease of 3.4 per cent.

Red Deer’s violent crime severity index decreased even more, from 129.11 to 121.92, or 5.57 per cent.

Non-violent crime went from 115.05 to 112.31, or a drop of 2.38 per cent.
