Sep 17, 2025 | 4:56 PM

The third of three people charged in a kidnapping with a firearm incident in central Alberta three years ago has now been sentenced.

Alexandra Louise Rain, 27, a resident of the Maskwacis area, was sentenced in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench on Sept. 16, 2025, to two-and-a-half years in jail, less pre-trial custody of 605 days at time-and-a-half credit, exceeding her 900-day sentence, therefore sentenced to time in custody and ordered to be released. She was also given a firearm prohibition, however.

Rain was convicted on counts of kidnapping/confinement with firearm, and assault. Charges of unlawful confinement, threats causing death/bodily harm, and robbery were withdrawn.

Co-accused Amy Natasha Okeymow, now 40, of the Samson Cree Nation, was sentenced in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Oct. 23, 2023, to 21 months in jail, two years of probation, and a 10-year firearms prohibition. She was convicted on one count of unlawful confinement.

Her sentencing followed that of co-accused, Richard Stanley Soosay, now 33, also of Samson Cree Nation, who was sentenced on May 15, 2023, to 90 days in jail and given a lifetime firearms prohibition after being convicted on one count of possession of a prohibited firearm.

It was on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, when Maskwacis RCMP responded to a call for service on the Samson Cree Nation where a female reported being kidnapped by multiple individuals and held against her will.

Mounties say the female was forced into a vehicle, threatened with her life, and a firearm was held to her head. After some time, the female was able to break free from being restrained and fled to safety. Police say the female was treated for minor injuries and was expected to make a full recovery.

As the investigation unfolded, police say they were able to quickly identify three suspects and take two into custody. The third suspect was later arrested and charged.
