38 new recoveries, 165 new cases

Alberta conducts more than 4,000 COVID-19 tests in last 24 hours

Another 165 cases of COVID-19 were declared in the province of Alberta in Saturday, bringing the provincial total to 2,562.

Recoveries increased by 38 to 1,162, and there has been one additional death since yesterday, a woman in her 90s in Calgary Zone. There have been 51 deaths since the pandemic hit Alberta.

In Central Zone, a data correction now puts the region at 76 cases, one less than yesterday.

The rescinded case is in Red Deer, where yesterday there was an increase of one. Of the city’s 32 cases, nine are active and 23 have recovered.

Central Zone now has the lowest number of cases of all zones, with Calgary at 1,820, Edmonton at 433, North at 137, and South at 77. There are also 19 cases with a zone yet to be confirmed.

The province reports that there have been 96,897 lab tests completed, including 4,092 since yesterday. That tops the previous daily high of just over 3,800 (April 17). Premier Jason Kenney noted on Friday the goal is to see 20,000 tests per day.

Cases suspected of being from community transmission have gone up from 400 to 450. Meantime, 57 people are currently in hospital and 14 are in ICUs.

The Government of Alberta is also sharing more details about its plan to protect workers in food processing plants.

Interactive map for commercial truck drivers

Truck drivers can now use an interactive map on 511Alberta to find open restaurants, restrooms and showers on Alberta highways.

Fire bans

A fire ban is in place inside the Forest Protection Area of Alberta and Alberta provincial parks and protected areas until further notice. More details here.

Confidential supports are available to help with mental health concerns. The Mental Health Help Line at 1-877-303-2642 and the Addiction Help Line at 1-866-332-2322 are available between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Online resources provide advice on handling stressful situations and ways to talk with children.
