Alberta records 82 new COVID-19 cases as recoveries surpass active files

April 12 marks the first day since the province’s first case of COVID-19 on March 6 that there are more recovered cases than active cases.

On Sunday, Alberta declared 82 new cases bringing the provincial total to 1,651.

There are now 823 recovered cases, up from 771 on Saturday. Active cases now number 781, down from 805.

Sadly, there have also been four additional deaths.

Two of the latest deaths are at Calgary’s McKenzie Towne continuing care facility where fatalities now total 20. The other two were residents at the Manoir du Lac in McLennan, Alberta, which is two hours east of Grande Prairie. There have now been 183 cases confirmed at continuing care facilities.

There are currently 44 people in hospital, and 14 admitted to intensive care units.

Community transmission is suspected to be the culprit for up to 237 cases.

For Central Zone, the caseload remains stagnant at 72. There hasn’t been a new confirmed case in the zone since April 7.

The city of Red Deer remains at 32 cases, 13 of which are active. Red Deer County has six active cases, while six have recovered.

Edmonton Zone: 395 cases, 7 deaths
North Zone: 103 cases, 6 deaths (2 new)
Central Zone: 72 cases, 1 death
South Zone: 31 cases, 0 deaths
Unknown: 4 cases, 0 deaths
