Canadian Taxpayers Federation calls for ‘permanent’ gas tax subsidy

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applauding the federal government for extending its, so-called, gas tax holiday until January 31, 2027. 

However, in congratulating Ottawa for the move, it’s urging Prime Minister Mark Carney to go further and make the tax cut permanent. 

“People are nervous. They’re scared for their jobs. They’re worried about inflation. They’re fighting to afford the basics,” said CTF Alberta director Kris Sims.

“So, it wasn’t a surprise when we did polling, national polling with Leger (that) 70 per cent…seven-zero…said no gas tax hike, thank you very much.”
