Now we’re walkin’: Red Deer’s historic CPR Pedestrian Bridge finally reopens
The day has come for Red Deerians to once again walk across the CPR Pedestrian Bridge.
A ribbon was cut Monday morning, putting a bow on many months of work to preserve the legacy of a structure that has stood since 1908.
At the end of the day, $22.3 million was spent to literally lift and move the very heavy bridge, give it some much-needed TLC, and create a new public gathering space on the north end.
Half the cost was provided by the federal government through its Active Transportation Fund.
