SCHOOL DIVISION DISPELS RUMOURS

Charges laid following violent assault in southeast Red Deer

May 13, 2026 | 4:14 PM

Multiple charges have been laid in connection to an alleged assault that took place on May 11 in the Red Deer neighbourhood of Lancaster Meadows.

Two 14-year-old female youths, both residents of Red Deer, have been identified.

One youth has been arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Assault by Choking.

The second youth has been arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

Both youths have been released with conditions to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on June 25.

As youths, they cannot be named, as per Alberta’s Youth Criminal Justice Act.

RCMP continue to investigate and thank the witnesses who came forward to assist in the investigation. No further information is available at this time.

At this time, RCMP have not linked this incident to a threat situation which occurred on May 13 at Hunting Hills and Notre Dame high schools, and the Collicutt Centre.

However, Red Deer Public Schools did issue a statement late Wednesday addressing both the May 11 assault, and the May 13 threats incident.

“We also want to dispel a rumour and speculation circulating on social media,” they say. “Claims that individuals involved in Monday’s violent incident have returned to school are not accurate. These individuals are not attending school at this time and are subject to disciplinary action as per Division processes.”

The full statement can be read here.
