Red Deer Rebels forward Jhett Larson will head to the NCAA next season.

On Thursday the Rebels announced Larson has committed to playing NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks.

The 20-year-old from Delisle, Sask. has scored 50 goals and 75 assists for 125 points in 238 points in a Rebels uniform. He’s also added 15 points in 30 playoff games.

“Jhett is a dynamic forward that possesses incredible character,” Nanooks head coach Erik Largen said in a release. “He can play a 200-foot game an we are so excited to add him to our family.”

Larson, who was selected in round eight in the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, is in his fifth season with the Rebels where he’s notched 11 points in 24 games.

He was recently listed as out with an upper-body injury for a to be determined length of time in the WHL’s weekly report.

Larson’s commitment marked a significant moment for the Rebels organization as he became the first player in franchise history to commit to playing NCAA hockey since the eligibility rule change last month.
