Red Deer Safety City to hand out candy this Halloween

Oct 26, 2026 | 2:07 PM

Red Deer Safety City is inviting the public to stop by for trick-or-treating this Halloween.

On Oct. 30 and 31, they’ll hand out candy to kids to celebrate the occasion.

Operations administrator for the Red Deer Safety City Society, Thomas Wooff said they came up with the idea earlier this year in an effort to give back to the community.

“It makes Halloween a little extra special, and it gives us a way to give back. This year has very much been an exercise in rebuilding and getting back out interacting more with Red Deer and central Alberta,” he said. “This is a good way to bring people in and have them remember that we’re here and still doing stuff. It was also kind of a pull from when I was trick-or-treating as a kid, and we used to go to the mall… This is a very similar setup to that.”

They’ll be handing out candy on Oct. 30 from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Oct. 31 from noon to 4 p.m.

There will also be some safety tips on what to do if your Halloween costume impacts your visibility and what to look out for to remain safe.

Meanwhile, Safety City is also calling for volunteers to help hand out candy and communicate with the kids.

There will be a person at each of their kiosks to hand out candy, and costumes are encouraged.

If interested, contact Wooff at safetycityrd@gmail.com or by calling 403-314-9914. There is also an online volunteer form that can be filled out on their website at safetycity.ca.

Wooff explained they’re also looking for people to donate Halloween decorations.

They will decorate Safety City on Thursday, Oct. 29, so those who’d like to help out can drop them off on the day of or beforehand.
