Record setting heat in some parts of central Alberta Tuesday
Residents in some central Alberta communities experienced some record setting heat on Tuesday.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the Lacombe area set a new record of 31.9 degrees Celsius on Aug. 29, 2023, beating the old record of 31.7 degrees Celsius set in 1915. Records in this area have been kept since 1907.
Elsewhere, the Rocky Mountain House area set a new record of 30.3 degrees Celsius for August 29, surpassing the previous record of 29.4 degrees Celsius for that date set in 1929. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.
The Nordegg area set a new record high for August 29 of 28.3 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 28.0 degrees Celsius set in 1998. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.
