Penhold Fall Festival to feature new Mayor’s Mini Marathon

Aug 18, 2022 | 1:46 PM

Preparations are well underway for The Town of Penhold’s Fall Festival, and it will include a new mayoral fixture this year.

The Festival, which runs Sept. 9-10, will include the new Mayor’s Mini Marathon for a Cause.

This 500 metre run will take place on Friday the 9th, with proceeds going to the Penhold Elementary School Parent Advisory Council for their new playground development.

“The run is meant to be a fun time,” says Mayor Mike Yargeau. “It’s only 500 metres and there will be a Golden Mini Donut Hydration Station at the midway point and a retro costume contest for the participants.”

The mini marathon will end at the Craft Beer, Wine & Spirits Festival tent, an event also taking place that night. Marathon participants receive free admission to that specific event which will showcase more than 20 vendors from around Alberta.

The marathon has a $25 fee.

“We have had the Red Deer Cruise Night in Penhold for the last three years during Fall Festival but they are now in Sylvan Lake on Friday nights so one of our local businesses, Ma & Pa’s Bakery Café, will be hosting a Show & Shine at the Multiplex on Friday night instead,” explains Yargeau.

Fall Festival activities continue Saturday, Sept. 10 with the Community TIES Pancake Breakfast at Memorial Hall at 8:30 a.m. followed by the parade at 11:00 a.m. Then, the fun continues at the Penhold Multiplex from 1-5 p.m. with activities galore.

Fall Festival activities wrap up with fireworks south of the Multiplex at 9 p.m.
