GoFundMe set up for family who lost Blackfalds home to fire

Help is being sought for a family of three who lost their Blackfalds home last week.

Natasha Hearn, and her three- and four-year-old daughters, were in their mobile home the night of Oct. 12. At about 10 p.m. a fire broke out on the deck of the home just off Broadway Avenue and Womacks Road, according to Blackfalds Fire Chief Robert Cote.

They all escaped safely, but the trailer is a write-off.

Shirley Hearn, Natasha’s mother, shares that there was no insurance, making things more difficult for the single mom.

“We’re just glad they’re okay and that they have a pit bull who saved them,” says Hearn.

“My daughter had gone to bed, and Razor kept coming in to alert her about something, and barking. She got up and went out to look, and saw the fire.”

Neither Natasha, nor her daughters, suffered from any major smoke inhalation.

Cote says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but adds that it isn’t suspicious.

A GoFundMe for the family has raised over $4,000 as of Wednesday morning. Razor was also donated a day at the doggy spa for his heroism from Boomers Groomers.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us that night,” says Natasha. “We have wonderful neighbours and family.”
