Red Deer with 442 active cases of COVID-19

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer continues to edge lower.

As of Tuesday, there are 442 active cases of coronavirus in the city, down 32 from Monday.

Recoveries, meanwhile, increased by 52 and now sit at 8,274, with the number of COVID-19 cases identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic, now totalling 8,789.

The city’s active case rate per 100k population is currently 415.4. That compares to 155.1 in Edmonton and 140.6 in Calgary. Lethbridge, with a similar population to Red Deer, has an active case rate of 351.7.

Red Deer’s death toll from the virus has increased by one in the past 24 hours, bringing that total to 73.

CENTRAL ZONE

Across Central Zone, there are 2,209 active cases of COVID-19, down 184 from Monday. 179 individuals throughout the zone are currently hospitalized with the virus, up one from Monday, with 21 of those patients in ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, also up one from the day before.

Total COVID-19 related deaths in Central Zone now stands at 334, an increase of three from Monday.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Provincially, 531 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Alberta on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 11,402 – a decrease of 900 from Monday.

With 8,030 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 6.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, active variant cases now total 5,189 or 45.5 per cent of all active cases.

The are 964 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 17 from Monday, with 218 of those patients receiving intensive care, a decrease of seven from Monday.

There have been 12 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the past 24 hours. Officials note there can be a delay in a death being reported to Alberta Health or in a death being confirmed post-mortem as having COVID-19 as a contributing cause.

Throughout the province, there are 2,891 active cases of coronavirus in the Calgary Zone, 2,717 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 2,398 in the North Zone, 1,175 in the South Zone and 12 active cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 6,368,880 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Oct. 18. That’s up 18,749 doses over the past day.

Of the 12+ population, 86.1 per cent has received at least one dose (73.2% total population), while 77.6 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (66.0% total population).

In Red Deer, 71,711 (78.2% eligible/67.4% total) people have received at least one dose, up 91 over the last day.

Meanwhile, 64,455 residents (70.3%/60.5%) are fully vaccinated, up 253 from Monday.
