Rebels edge Oil Kings in Edmonton
After splitting a home and home series with the Calgary Hitmen, the Red Deer Rebels finished off their three-game weekend with a 2-1 win over the Oil Kings in Edmonton Sunday.
The Oil Kings struck first in the game when Carson Latimer got the puck past Rebels netminder Connor Ungar at 5:13 of the opening period to give Edmonton the 1-0 lead. Assists came courtesy of Jacob Boucher and Tyler Horstmann. It was Latimer’s first goal of the season and the only goal of the opening frame.
Red Deer went 0/2 on the power play in the opening 20 minutes, while Edmonton went 0/1. The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 6-4 in the first period.
In the second, Red Deer evened things up at 1-1 when Jace Weir scored from the edge of the Edmonton goal crease, beating Oil Kings goaltender Sebastian Cossa at the 2:00 mark, with the assist coming from Jhett Larson for Weir’s third goal of the season.
