Seeking to be the best

Red Deer Public Schools launches stakeholder engagement

Feb 28, 2021 | 12:59 PM

Red Deer Public Schools is engaging with stakeholders this week to learn more about what their schools are doing right and wrong, and how the division can be the best choice for local students.

Stakeholders and members of the community can take part in the thought exchange from Monday, March 1 through Thursday, March 4.

“The School Board’s role is to ensure the best possible education for students which shapes the future of our community. The Board works diligently in the cause of public education and in ensuring each student in Red Deer Public Schools is successful in learning and life,” said Board Chair Nicole Buchanan.

The division says it wants to provide “assurance and confidence” that all students of all ages are getting the best possible education experience, whatever that may look like.

“We want to make sure our students get enjoyment out of school each day, and are best prepared for their future and beyond,” said Chad Erickson, Superintendent of Schools. “What skills and knowledge will they need in the future, how can they achieve their hopes and dreams, how do they confidently plan for their futures, how will they serve and lead in their community?”

In engaging parents, students, staff and the community, Red Deer Public Schools says it wants to know:

• We want our schools to be the best choice for every student to be successful in learning and life. How should that look and feel in our schools?

• What can our schools do that would have a real impact on students achieving and succeeding?

The feedback they receive will shape the division’s Education Plan to be responsive to the needs of its school communities and to make important budget decisions.

“Our community’s input will help guide the Division and our schools on the future we all want for our students and community,” added Buchanan. “This is valuable and important work. We want to know how our community feels and we as a Board will work to address that.”
