The City of Red Deer reports that applications for council committees, boards, and commissions are now open.

They will remain open until September 18, and the successful nominees, the city says, are expected to be selected and announced at the October 27 organizational meeting, with terms beginning after the meeting.

Applications open today and will be accepted until September 18, 2026.

“Council committees are one way residents can contribute directly to the community and help inform decisions that shape Red Deer,” said Catherine Jackson, Acting City Clerk, in a media release. “We encourage people with different backgrounds, experiences and interests to review the opportunities available and consider applying.”

The city added that this year they’re recruiting for 33 vacancies across several committees, boards and commissions, including the new Greater Downtown Governance committee.

Opportunities are available in multiple committees, boards and commissions:

  • Audit Committee
  • Greater Downtown Governance
  • Housing and Homelessness Integration Committee
  • Intermunicipal Subdivision and Development Appeal Board
  • Municipal Planning Commission
  • Policing Committee
  • Public Art Commission
  • River Bend Golf and Recreation Society Board
  • Red Deer & District FCSS
  • Red Deer Library Board
  • Red Deer Tribunals

Each committee has its own focus, requirements, term length and meeting schedule, and applicants are encouraged to review committee descriptions and apply for the opportunity that best matches their interests, experience and availability.
