Red Deer with 409 active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday

Alberta reported another 1,341 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

That’s out of 16,353 test results over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 8.2 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province sits at 20,649, a decrease of 649.

There have now been 61,934 recovered cases in the province, an increase of 1,804.

There are 742 people in hospital because of the novel coronavirus, an increase of 26, including 137 in ICU, an increase of one from Monday.

“These numbers continue to be alarming, as I have said before, this pandemic has not stopped all of the other health issues that Albertans face every day,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, said Tuesday.

She said everyone must do everything we can to “help prevent one more person from ending up in hospital – for our health, for our loved ones, for our health-care workers and for the system that we all rely on.”

Another 11 deaths related to COVID-19 were reported to bring Alberta’s total to 744.

In Red Deer, the number of active cases has risen by one over the past 24 hours to 409. The number of recoveries has risen by 38 to 665 as the total number of cases attributed to the city rose by 39 to 1,074.

Red Deer County saw its active case count hold steady at 105, while Sylvan Lake saw its drop by nine to sit at 46.

Clearwater County (Rocky Mountain House) saw its active case count drop by five to a total of 64.

Lacombe County has 62 active cases as of Tuesday, a decrease of three, while Lacombe’s fell by three to 29.

Ponoka County saw its active case count drop by 30 to sit at 224.

Mountain View County has 31 active cases, a decrease of four, Olds has 27, an increase of one, and Kneehill County is down by two to 24. Starland County remains with one active case, while the County of Stettler has 18, a decrease of four.

There are now 1,496 active cases across the Central zone, a decrease of 98 from Monday, and 65 hospitalizations, an increase of three. There are four people in the zone currently in intensive care. The Central zone has had 26 deaths related to COVID-19, which is unchanged over the last 24 hours.
