damage kept minimal

Basement fire in Riverside Meadows

Apr 16, 2020 | 4:50 PM

Firefighters were able to keep damage to a minimum when fire broke out at a home in Riverside Meadows on Thursday.

Red Deer Emergency Services was called just before noon after a neighbour spotted smoke coming from the single-family home on the 5600 Block of 60 Street.

Assistant Deputy Chief Matt White says no one was home and there were no pets inside the residence at the time of the fire.

White says the fire started in the basement of the home and that crews were able to knock it down quickly, limiting damage on the main floor of the home to being smoke-related.
