Update: Severe Thunderstorm Watch ended for Drayton Valley and area

ENDED: The sever thunderstorm watch for Drayton Valley and surrounding area has ended.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Town of Drayton Valley and surrounding area.

Meteorologists say conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms continue across Alberta this evening. Some of these storms may become severe with hail to the size of golf balls and wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h likely.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for:

Brazeau Co. near Drayton Valley and Breton
Co. of Wetaskiwin near Alder Flats and Winfield

Co. of Wetaskiwin near Pigeon Lake

Leduc Co. near Calmar and Devon

Leduc Co. near Warburg Thorsby and Pigeon Lake

Ponoka Co. near Crestomere

Ponoka Co. near Rimbey Bluffton and Hoadley
