Trial date set in double fatal crash north of Eckville

A trial date has been set for a Rimbey resident charged in a fatal collision that claimed two lives last year. 

Aaron Alvin Barr, 24, is scheduled for trial in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench on Oct. 13, 2027. 

He was arrested and charged on March 20, 2026, with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. 

This comes as a result of an incident on July 5, 2025, where two people died following a collision between two trucks north of Eckville on Highway 12 and Highway 766. Mounties say the two men from Lacombe, a 75-year-old and a 72-year-old, were the lone occupants of a GMC Sierra.
