Lacombe Police arrest driver with loaded shotgun

A man from Clive has been charged after his arrest in Lacombe on Aug. 24.

Lacombe Police Service (LPS) shared that, at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, members conducted a proactive traffic stop on a black GMC truck in the Tim Hortons parking lot.

They had observed the vehicle and determined its registration had expired.

When the officer approached the vehicle, they immediately observed a shotgun lying in the back seat.

The driver was detained for officer safety, then arrested once police discovered he did not have a valid firearms licence.

Upon seizing the shotgun, police realized it was loaded, they shared in a release.

A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of a second loaded firearm, that being a semi-automatic .22-calibre with a sawed-off barrel, plus ammunition for both guns.

The 20-year-old faces several firearm-related offences.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court.
