July 10 evening update: As of Friday night, the Amber Alert originating in Alberta on July 8 has been cancelled for BOTH Alberta and British Columbia.

However, it has now been extended to the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

More to come…

July 10 afternoon update: Alert cancelled in Alberta

Lanakai, his mother Krista Morrison, her partner Daniel Ludwig and four-year-old Karl Morrison are still missing. This alert was cancelled as there is no reasonable expectation the public, in Alberta, will be able to action the instructions in the alert. The criteria for Amber Alerts are outlined on the Alberta Government website: https://www.alberta.ca/about-emergency-alerts.”

Alberta RCMP continue to investigate this alleged abduction and the whereabouts of the other individuals.

July 9 update: The search for Lanakai Morrison is now interprovincial.

RCMP have again expanded an Amber Alert and the search area for Lanakai Morrison, offering a new update late Thursday that the four-year-old, believed abducted earlier this week, was seen in Fort St. John around 9:30 a.m. on July 8. (Note: RCMP previously indicated it was July 9 he was seen there)

Fort St. John is about two hours from Beaverlodge.

“Beaverlodge RCMP are working with our RCMP partners and police forces in British Columbia to safely locate Lanakai,” says Cst. Sandra Geiger, Alberta RCMP.

“There have been a number of sightings in British Columbia and police are actively investigating any leads. Efforts to locate Lanakai remain ongoing.”

An Amber Alert was issued late Wednesday night out of Beaverlodge, which is half an hour west of Grande Prairie, and 55 km from the B.C. border.

The alert originally applied to a 200 km radius from Beaverlodge; however, Alberta Mounties said Thursday the alert was expanded to apply to everywhere between Grande Cache and Chateh — a distance of about 750 km, with Grande Prairie in the middle. They also noted it was for areas within the north and west provincial boundaries.

B.C. RCMP issued their Amber Alert at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. They also shared a new photo believed to be of the mom and her partner, Daniel Ludwig.

According to police, on July 7, Lanakai Morrison was taken by his mom, 35-year-old Krista Morrison, from Valhalla Centre near Beaverlodge.

Lanakai is believed to be with his biological mother, her partner Daniel Ludwig, and another child, four-year-old Karl Morrison.

Police add that Ludwig may have a shaved or bald head, as opposed to brown hair as originally shared.

Additionally, they say the original vehicle (a black 2015 Toyota Tundra) they were believed to be in has been located, and they are now believed to be driving a 2006 Red Ford F350, AB license plate CXW8820. B.C. RCMP noted, however, that they are not sure what licence plate the vehicle currently has.
