The 1390 Red Deer Royal Canadian Army Cadets have been presented the Alberta Shield Award, which is awarded annually to the top Army Cadet Corps in the province.

They were presented the award by the Alberta Army Cadet League during their Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) on Sunday at the Cormack Armoury in Red Deer.

The 1390 Red Deer Royal Canadian Army Cadets were selected to receive the award from approximately 40 Army Cadet Corps across Alberta.

“Receiving the Alberta Shield Award is a tremendous honour for our corps,” said Capt. Sarah Robert in a media release. “This recognition reflects the commitment of our cadets to excellence in training, leadership, and community service. We are proud of what they have accomplished throughout the year and the positive impact they continue to make in our community.”

This means the Cadets in Red Deer showed a strong commitment to serving the community.

They took part in several volunteer initiatives such as the Red Deer Food Bank Drive, the Veterans Food Bank, the Gift of Hope Christmas Campaign, the MS Walk and Run, events hosted by the Red Deer Legion Branch 35, and the Red Deer Optimist Club Duck Race, among other events.

The Annual Ceremonial Review, organizers say, wraps up the cadet training year and is the final parade of the season and provides an opportunity for cadets to showcase the skills, discipline, leadership, and accomplishments they have developed.

During the ceremony, cadets also received awards and recognition for their achievements before concluding the training year.

There was also a family appreciation barbecue lunch and a silent auction following the ceremony and parade.
