John Johnston, who’s been with Youth HQ for 43 years, has officially retired from his longstanding role.

As a result, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of supporting children, youth, and families in central Alberta.

“Over the course of more than four decades, Johnston has played a pivotal role in shaping programs, fostering connections, and championing opportunities for young people,” as stated in a media release. “His dedication has helped create welcoming, supportive environments where youth could build confidence, develop life skills, and feel a true sense of belonging.”

The organization says Johnston’s influence went beyond day-to-day program delivery, including through his leadership in mentorship initiatives, collaborative community efforts, youth-focused programming, and fundraising campaigns.

“He has helped strengthen the foundation of Youth HQ and its reach within the community,” Youth HQ added. “His belief in the ability of every young person to succeed has inspired countless individuals, both the youth he served and the colleagues who worked alongside him.

His presence will be greatly missed as Youth HQ celebrates Johnston amidst his retirement.

“Retirement will offer him the opportunity to spend more time with loved ones, explore new experiences, and enjoy a well-earned change of pace after decades of service. Congratulations, John, on a remarkable career and best wishes for a fulfilling and enjoyable retirement.”
