Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools announced they’ll host the 43rd annual local school bus road-eo this weekend.

On Saturday, May 23, they’ll welcome approximately 50 school bus drivers from across central Alberta to St. Joseph High School.

At the event, the drivers will put their skills to the test with competitors from Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools, Chinook’s Edge School Division, Wolf Creek Public Schools, and Prairie Bus Lines.

Throughout the day, drivers will participate in friendly competition, which will feature a variety of skill-testing events, including a simulated railroad crossing, diminishing clearance, back-up stall, and offset alley.

The top performers from the local event will earn the chance to advance to the provincial school bus road-eo, set for Saturday, June 6, in Nisku.

“The annual school bus road-eo is a fantastic event that allows our dedicated drivers to demonstrate their expertise and commitment to ensuring the safe transportation of students,” said Kelli Pickett, Transportation Manager. “We are excited to bring the event back to St. Joseph High School and look forward to another day of spirited competition and camaraderie.”

“Our bus drivers are the first and last point of contact for many of our students each day, and their dedication to safety is unparalleled,” said Superintendent Dr. Rhonda Nixon. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to recognize their professionalism, dedication, and the vital role they play in our school communities.”

The local divisions take great pride in hosting the annual event, which fosters collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence across regional transportation networks.

“The board is incredibly proud of our transportation team and the drivers who step up to showcase their skills,” added Board Chair Chris Andrew. “The Road-eo is not just about competition; it’s a celebration of safety, teamwork, and the outstanding individuals who ensure our students arrive at school ready to learn.”

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools says members of the public are welcome to attend and cheer on their local drivers.
