Major roads completed

Residential street sweeping in Red Deer begins May 19

May 15, 2026 | 5:53 PM

The City of Red Deer announced that residential street sweeping will begin on Tuesday, May 19.

This comes after the city wraps up sweeping of major roads.

Crews will start by completing all grey routes before moving on to green routes.

Officials say residents can help by moving their vehicles off the roads when “no parking” signs are placed on their street.

Residents will see street sweepers in their neighbourhoods twice in the coming weeks, as it allows residents to find a nearby option to park their vehicles.

The city added that any vehicles left on the street will be ticketed and towed.

“Street sweeping is an important part of keeping our roads clean and safe after the winter season,” said DJ Brough, Roads Superintendent with the City of Red Deer. “Residents can help crews do the best job possible by moving vehicles, basketball hoops, curb ramps and other items off the street before sweepers arrive.”

Residents can also help by sweeping debris from sidewalks in front of their properties onto the road before crews arrive.

“Pedestrians and motorists are reminded to stay a safe distance from street sweeping equipment, obey posted signs and slow down when passing maintenance workers,” as stated in the release. “Sweepers can create flying debris, so residents are asked to stay at least three car lengths away from equipment.”
