21 plates available

City of Red Deer to hold taxi plate draw in June

May 15, 2026 | 10:54 AM

The City of Red Deer says they’ll hold a taxi plate draw on Wednesday, June 3, where it will award 21 taxi plates.

This is because the city adopted a vehicle-for-hire bylaw on May 27, 2024, which included an increase of 15 taxi plates per year for three years.

The city says six plates returned from the 2025 draw, which will be added on top of the 15 available plates for this year that will be awarded through a random draw.

Eligible applicants must meet the criteria to hold a taxi license plate, including having a plan to open a brokerage or operate as an independent driver-owner.

Those hoping to enter the draw must complete a few tasks before the application deadline, including filling out three forms: the plate draw application form, the brokerage licence application form, and the driver application form for independent driver owners.

They must also pay a plate draw fee of $104.75.

Applicants should note the following important dates:

  • May 29 at 12 p.m. (noon): Deadline for completed application packages
  • June 1 at 11:59 p.m.: Deadline for payment of Plate Draw Fee
  • June 3 at 2 p.m.: Plate Draw to be held at City Hall, Second Floor, Crimson Star Room
  • September 3, 2026: Plates awarded in the draw must be operational
