Maskwacis RCMP use ATV’s during patrols, leading to charges and other infractions

May 7, 2026 | 12:09 PM

Maskwacis RCMP report that, as a result of ATV patrols on Louis Bull First Nation, they handed out several infractions.

On May 2 at 9 p.m., they held a roving checkstop in the community within Maskwacis, where officers checked several vehicles within the area.

As a result, a man was charged with impaired driving and provincial sanctions. His vehicle was also towed.

Officers also dished out several warnings on seatbelt infractions, including no seat for a child under 18 kilograms.

A woman was also charged with having open alcohol in a vehicle, and a man was charged following a drug seizure and with breaching conditions.

Mounties say they’ll continue to use ATVs as a tool within the four nations when conducting proactive patrols. The vehicles are equipped with emergency lights and RCMP markings.

“You will see us out this summer in all the nations. We are open to feedback, as this is a tool we want to utilize to assist in public safety and to have members out interacting with the public at the same time in a different police vehicle,” said Cst. Catlin Chiasson, Maskwacis RCMP Public Information Officer.

Maskwacis RCMP asks the public to promptly report suspicious behaviour, as early reporting supports effective response and ongoing investigations. By working together, the RCMP and community members can help reduce property crime and enhance neighbourhood safety. If you see a crime in progress, dial 9-1-1.
