The City of Red Deer announced they’ve received $122,600 in grant funding from the provincial government for more energy-efficient lighting in several facilities.

The funding came from the Government of Alberta through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre to replace fluorescent bulbs with LED lights in five civic yard facilities, three parking lots, and at city hall.

The city says the funding allowed them acquire approximately 800 LED fixtures that provide both energy and cost savings.

“This grant not only enabled us to upgrade fixtures across multiple facilities, but it also advances our commitment to environmental stewardship and operational sustainability,” said Curtis Martinek, Facilities & Asset Management Superintendent, in a media release. “Changing out the fluorescent bulbs for more energy-efficient LED lights is in alignment with The City’s Environmental Master Plan. One of the six focus areas in the plan is Energy; the goal is to reduce energy use and move towards using renewable energy resources.”
