Red Deer RCMP apprehend two men during bike patrols

Red Deer RCMP arrested two men during winter mountain bike patrols last week.

Police say on Jan. 14, they nabbed the suspects while conducting patrols in the downtown area along 47 street.

At that time, they witnessed two men using illicit drugs, who were arrested.

After further investigation, police also seized several items, including a replica firearm, bear spray, a large knife, and illicit drugs.

As a result, a 39-year-old man from Red Deer was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, four counts of carrying a concealed weapon, six counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and failing to comply with a release order.

A 35-year-old man from Red Deer was wanted on outstanding warrants for previous charges and is not facing new charges.

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the 39-year-old man was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Jan. 16, 2026.
