Lacombe city council approves updated utility bylaw

Jan 14, 2026 | 4:11 PM

Lacombe city council has approved a bylaw updating water, wastewater, and solid waste rates for 2026, as well as clarifying procedures for wastewater blockages.

City officials say the bylaw received second and third reading at the Jan. 13, 2026 council meeting and takes effect Jan. 1, 2026.

According to the city, the updated utility rates continue council’s focus on affordability in the 2026 Operating Budget.

The city says estimated utility bills for a typical detached home are expected to remain consistent with 2025 levels, providing stability and predictability for households.

However, for other customer classes, including condominiums, apartments, and businesses, estimated bills may see modest increases or decreases depending on property type and water use patterns.

Officials say Bylaw 450.4 also clarifies the process for addressing wastewater blockages. Property owners are now required to have their plumber document the location of a blockage and obtain video evidence before clearing work begins. The city says this ensures any potential municipal responsibility is properly assessed.

Residents can review the new rates and bylaw details on the city’s website and will receive further updates through the city’s social media channels and council highlights.
