Red Deer Tims locations raise $39,993 from Holiday Smile Cookies

Tim Hortons Holiday Smile Cookies sales raised $39,993 last month for Red Deer-based The Lending Cupboard, and Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.

The impressive number was revealed in a cheque presentation on Thursday at the Timberlands store.

Tanya Doucette, who is one of six Tim Hortons owners in Red Deer, praised the work The Lending Cupboard is doing.

“They’re doing such important work, but they fly under the radar until you need them,” Doucette said, referring to how The Lending Cupboard lends out medical equipment when people are injured or get sick.

“Once you or a family member needs that help, the service they provide is indispensable. It’s incredible. That’s why we are delighted to partner with them for Smile Cookies. I’m so impressed, always, by the community and the way Red Deer turns up to support these causes.”

On the camp side, the half the foundation will get will benefit the launch of a program into Alberta.

Melanie Reize, the foundation’s senior manager of camp operations, shares that on top of their regular summer camps in Kananaskis and across the country, an existing program will be bringing the camp experience to Alberta schools for the first time.

The Tims Classroom Program launched in 2024, and has engaged more than 1,100 kids in grades 5-6 across the country in camp activities within the classroom, while also focusing on youth leadership and prosocial skill development.

“The classroom program is a feeder program for our summer camps [too]. We work with teachers to identify some of those students who would most benefit from our summer programs, and then they can enter it for four years,” explains Reize.

“Smile Cookies will allow us to expand that program into Alberta in 2026. In 2026, we’re set to serve 26,000 youth, and then by 2028, we’re set to serve 50,000.”

After Camp Day, Smile Cookies is the next biggest fundraiser for Tims Camps.
