Maskwacis RCMP charge man in connection to alleged illegal firearms

A 21-year-old man from Samson Cree First Nation has been charged in connection to a firearms seizure, RCMP say.

Maskwacis detachment says it received a tip about illegal firearms on Oct. 30, then executed a search warrant at a home on Samson Cree. Members located two guns, and ammunition.

The person charged was arrested at the scene and faces counts of:

  • Fail to comply with release order condition (X2);
  • Weapons possession contrary to order (X2);
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized (X2);
  • Possession of a firearm with tampered serial number;
  • Possession of a firearm with ammunition without licence/registration;
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm.

The accused was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Nov. 4.

RCMP note he was under curfew at the time, for charges related to a Wetaskiwin liquor store robbery on Aug. 14, 2025.
