Two central Alberta students are among nearly 400 showcasing their award-winning STEM projects at the 2024 Canada-Wide Science Fair in Ottawa, ON, this week.

Timothy Sears of Lacombe, and Emmett Shropshall of Sundre, are at the event which began May 26 at Carleton University and runs until May 31, 2024.

Sears’ project is titled Impact of Error Correction Tools on Single and Dual-Frequency Consumer-Grade GNSS Positioning, while Shropshall’s project is titled Shocking Solution.

Officials note, there are 387 finalists in Grades 7-12/Cégep that are showcasing their award-winning projects, with over 7,000 student and public visitors expected on May 30 and 31 at Carleton University. Another 30,000 visitors, meantime, are expected at the virtual showcase from May 26 to 31.

Officials say there are 39 STEM-related exhibits at the Expo, including post-secondary institutions, agencies, companies, museums, and other youth STEM-related organizations – with games and prizes for schools and student visitors.

An Awards Ceremony at the National Arts Centre will take place on Thursday, May 30, at 7:00 p.m..
