Trial dates have now been set for the second of three individuals charged after a year-and-a-half long drug investigation at the Bowden Institution.

Braden Foster, 32, of Slave Lake, AB, is scheduled for trial from June 26-27, 2023.

Foster faces two counts of trafficking a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, distribute cannabis, contrary to the Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Act, and trespass by night.

RCMP say institution staff began looking into suspicious activity at the facility in Nov. 2019.

Mounties say a search was conducted that resulted in the discovery of hidden contraband. Packages contained fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis concentrates and tobacco.

Innisfail RCMP led the investigation alongside Bowden Institution’s security intelligence office, and Slave Lake RCMP.

Co-accused Raymond James Foss, 33, of Slave Lake, AB, is scheduled for trial in Red Deer provincial court on Oct. 4, 2022.

Charges against a third individual, Joshua Anthony Laboucan, also of Slave Lake, AB, were withdrawn on Oct. 21, 2021.
