Survey seeks thoughts from Red Deerians on racism

Racism has been a hot button topic for many in Red Deer, especially in light of some of the events over the past year, and the Red Deer Local Immigration Partnership wants to know your thoughts.

A 10-15 minute survey is being launched to help the Racial Harmony Campaign, a social marketing initiative aiming to change attitudes and perceptions on Indigenous, Black and people of colour (BIPOC) matters.

The anonymous survey goes over things like whether you’ve witnessed or been affected by racism, what actions were taken, and what you would like to see implemented in the community for support.

Officials say the findings from this survey will help the campaign decide on what strategies to take in the community to build race relations.

“It is important for us to understand the extent of racism in Red Deer. It’s the first step in building harmony among all of us,” says Lori Black, Co-Chair of the Central Planning Council, RDLIP.

Ezgi Sarioglu, Program Manager for RDLIP says, “This survey will provide valuable insight on the experiences of our community members who may be struggling due to racism.”
