Wind causes wild pileup at pier in Sylvan Lake

A central Alberta man is racking up the views after sharing what he believes may be close to a once in a lifetime sighting in Sylvan Lake.

Mike Morelli was with a friend in the resort town on Thursday evening when the wind began to gust and the ice on the lake began piling up.

“I was just in a t-shirt and shorts out on the pier, and then the clouds started coming in and the wind picked up quite a bit. I couldn’t believe the wind could push the ice that much; the power of Mother Nature is ridiculous,” he says, noting almost no one else was around.

“It didn’t look dangerous, it was moving so slowly, and just crept up. It was almost eerie how it was happening, but fascinating.”

A spokesperson for the Town of Sylvan Lake says no homes or businesses along the shoreline have reported any damage.
