May 2, 2024 | 2:55 PM

A man has been charged after an incident inside Bower Place Shopping Centre late last month.

RCMP confirm that on Saturday, April 27, around 11 a.m., they received a report of an aggressive male refusing to leave the mall.

According to RCMP, the man was said to be acting erratically and spraying himself in the eyes with perfume.

“After police arrived, the man was refusing to leave the premises,” says Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, Alberta RCMP. “RCMP attempted to arrest the man, then he pulled away and became combative. RCMP then deployed a conducted energy weapon, which was successful and the man was arrested.”

A conducted energy weapon is commonly referred to as a Taser, and RCMP confirm that the use of it was successful the second time it was deployed. The first time was not successful.

A Red Deer man, age 38, is facing charges, though his name cannot be released as of yet because the charges against him have not been sworn before the courts. The man is to appear in a Red Deer courtroom on May 31.

Nobody else was harmed in the incident.
