RDP & FortisAlberta continuing partnership to drive sustainable energy projects

A partnership between Red Deer Polytechnic will continue to drive sustainable energy projects, thanks to new memorandum of understanding (MOU).

The two originally forged a relationship in 2019.

In that time, work included:

  • RDP providing an introductory solar training program for the PLTs (Power Line Technicians).
  • Fortis putting on a Micro-generation seminar here at RDP.
  • There was a speaker at the Ten Peaks Innovation Xchange Breakfast that was at RDP.
  • Fortis providing a solution for the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre electrical transformer.

The new five-year deal will enable more of those types of projects.

“When I reflect on Red Deer Polytechnic’s 2030 strategic plan and their focus on energy innovation, it’s clear that our organizations are aligned,” says Janine Sullivan, president and CEO, FortisAlberta.

“We are both community builders with a commitment to learning and we are working towards managing an evolving energy landscape to enable a positive future for Albertans.”

Adds Stuart Cullum, president, RDP: “Our joint initiatives are set to enhance our campus as a living lab, where new sustainable technologies not only take shape but also lead to practical applications in our communities.”

The renewed MOU demonstrates RDP’s continued commitment to and leadership in applied research and education, its dedication to reducing its carbon footprint, and the objective to enhance the learning environment through innovative and practical solutions, RDP says.
