AHS gives green light

Drive-in movies back on in Mirror

Call it “take two” as outdoor movies will be showing again in Mirror.

Chris Scott, owner of the Whistle Stop Café, posted on Facebook Thursday night that Alberta Health Services is giving them the go-ahead to resume their popular series of drive-in movie nights.

This comes after AHS informed them earlier this week that the events were a no-go as they violated physical distancing and other regulations that are in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I received word from our area AHS inspector, the provincial government has listened to our concerns and they have agreed to allow drive in theatres!” he wrote. “They have not released the rules and regulations yet, but I’m hoping we will have them soon.”

After seeing a handful of vehicles the first few times, the most recent drive-in movie night last Saturday drew more than 200 people.

Scott says they will be pushing to have window and ‘delivery to the car’ food service available as well as public washrooms.

“We will keep everyone updated as to details but there is a very good chance that we will have some great, safe entertainment happening at the Whistle Stop Café this weekend.”

AHS officials said in a statement they were reviewing drive-in movie events on a case by case basis in an effort to find ways to let them take place.
