Brazeau County Council hears updates on RCMP crime reports and fire service calls

Criminal Code offences in the Drayton Valley and Thorsby areas appears to be on the downward trend, according RCMP.

Brazeau County Council this week received updates from Staff Sergeant Harpreet Dhaliwal, Detachment Commander of the Thorsby/Breton detachment and Staff Sargent Malcolm Callihoo, Detachment Commander of the Drayton Valley RCMP, on statistical comparisons for the detachments.

In Breton, total Criminal Code offences fell 10% from 2018 to 2019, with crimes against persons falling 33% and property crimes declining 5%. There were 618 crimes recorded in 2019, compared to 690 in 2018.

The Drayton Valley statistics cover the period from January to March of 2020. Total Criminal Code offences fell to 137 between those months, compared to 148 in the same period in 2019. Property crimes fell to 97 from 118, while crimes against persons rose to 18 from 16.
