RDC volleyball teams chock full of veteran leadership

RDC’s Kings and Queens volleyball squads are itching to get onto the court for regular season ACAC competition, which begins this week.

Nine student-athletes are returning to the Queens this year, including middles Brook Ure, Sydney Rix, McKenna Olson and Alexandria Greenshields, along with 2018-19 ACAC Women’s Volleyball South All-Conference libero Kaylee Domoney. Also returning are setter Kelly Heinemann, and outside hitters Erin Neufeldt, Jade Van Dyke and Emma Holmes, last season’s South Rookie of the Year and All-Conference selection.

“I rely heavily on the experience of our veterans,” says Queens Head Coach Talbot Walton. “They’ve been in this league for a few years now, so they understand that whole process of coming to work every day and giving big efforts.”

Meantime, the team welcomes eight newcomers.

For the Kings, six players return after winning last season’s Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) silver medal.

Setter Thomas Wass, outside hitters Jayden Fathers, Ben Holmes and JJ Graham, along with middles Cody Boulding and Mark DeWit, return to the historic 13-time CCAA National Championship program.

“Those guys obviously add some experience and they’re good,” says Keith Hansen Interim Kings Head Coach. “I see everyone’s role somewhat the same in the way you have to make sure you’re adding whatever you can add.”

Both teams open the season Oct. 18 against the Briercrest College Clippers, and have had successful exhibition match-ups.
