Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries in Lacombe collision

Police in Lacombe say it’s fortunate no one was killed last week following a crash between a pickup truck and a motorcycle.

Lacombe Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to the crash last Friday on Highway 12, east of 34 Street.

Police say the collision was the result of the driver of the eastbound pickup truck turning across the path of the westbound motorcycle. Both vehicles were written off in the collision.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported by EMS to Edmonton hospital via Red Deer, with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

“The survival of the motorcycle rider in this collision can be partly attributed to the rider wearing high quality protective gear including full face helmet and armoured jacket,” the Lacombe Police Service says in a release.

“Police would like to remind drivers to be especially careful in regards to motorcycles,” the release adds. “With the early warm weather this year motorcyclists have been on the roads for two months now. It only takes a moment’s inattention to cause a life changing tragedy.”
