Annual Toys for Tickets campaign now underway

Nov 2, 2017 | 11:53 AM

A popular City of Red Deer program that helps less fortunate children in our community have a better holiday season is once again underway.

The 11th annual Toys for Tickets program began on November 1 and continues until December 1. Any Red Deer motorist who gets a parking ticket between now and the end of the month can pay for their ticket by making a toy donation instead.

All donations go to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau to ensure every child in Red Deer wakes up with a toy or other gift Christmas morning. Last year, city officials say more than 300 toys were collected from 209 citizens.

Officials note however that all gifts must be new and unwrapped in their original packaging, with receipts to be presented at the time of payment. The early ticket payment rate will also remain in effect when the ticket is paid for with a toy but the value of the toy must equal or exceed the amount of the ticket or the difference must be paid.
