The Hunting Hills Lightning took care of business Friday as they advanced to the high school football city division final with a 38-7 win over the Notre Dame Cougars at Great Chief Park.

Notre Dame conceded a safety on their opening possession to give Hunting Hills an early 2-0 lead.

The first touchdown of the game came later in the first quarter on a six-yard pass from Hunting Hills quarterback Haidan Brown to Dolan Hills. The Lightning missed the point after try and led 8-0.

Notre Dame took a pass interference penalty in their end zone early in the second quarter, but Hunting Hills missed a short field goal attempt on the ensuing possession and settled for a single point.

The Cougars then conceded another safety to make it 11-0 for the Lightning.

Brown plunged in from the one-yard line with 1:14 left in the quarter to send Hunting Hills to half-time with an 18-0 lead.

Hunting Hills received the second half kickoff and returned it past midfield. Joe Hunt ran in a four-yard touchdown a few players later as the Lightning took full command at 24-0.

Notre Dame took just one play on their next drive to finally hit the scoresheet as Luc Lukalu sprinted 66 yards to the end zone with 8:11 left in the third quarter.

The Lightning quelled any hopes of a Cougars comeback on their next drive when Brown plunged into the end zone from two yards out to make it 31-7.

Hunting Hills added one more major with 3:05 remaining when Joe Hunt hit broke through from a couple yards out.

The Lightning will battle the Lindsay Thurber Raiders in the city final next Saturday, Nov. 3 at Great Chief Park at 1 p.m. The Raiders defeated the Lacombe Rams 20-10 in Friday’s other semifinal game.
