Teen charged after incident at Thurber on first day of school

Red Deer RCMP have charged a youth in connection with an incident that happened on the first day of classes at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.

On Sept. 1, a day after the incident, RCMP initiated an investigation into the case of a student spraying what’s called oleoresin capsicum (better known as pepper/bear spray) into the school’s ventilation system.

A 16-year-old male student has since been charged with one count of Mischief under $5,000.

“Red Deer RCMP continue to take all school-related incidents seriously and will investigate them thoroughly,” the detachment states in a release on Nov. 5.
