Red Deer to (almost) remain two constituencies with electoral boundary changes
Amid allegations of the United Conservatives gerrymandering, it’s become clearer that Red Deer will not have its electoral boundaries changed as drastically as once thought possible.
This past April, rdnewsNOW reported that there was a chance Red Deer could be split into four constituencies, as per the final minority report of the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission.
The minority report, which the NDP and other critics surmised the UCP would use to its political advantage, recommended that Red Deer-North and Red Deer-South be transitioned to the quartet of Red Deer-Blackfalds, Red Deer-Innisfail, Red Deer-Lacombe, and Red Deer-Sylvan Lake.
The minority report proposed an increase from 87 to 91 constituencies, while the majority report proposed moving to 89.
