Oct 30, 2026 | 2:28 PM

Hockey Alberta is bringing a healthy batch of off-the-ice fun to this December and January’s IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Red Deer.

On Dec. 20, Hockey Alberta will host the Road to the World Juniors — Community Day Celebration at the Gary W. Harris Canada Winter Games Centre.

The event is intended to bring families, hockey fans, and the community together ahead of what should be a tremendous tournament in Red Deer and Edmonton.

Per Hockey Alberta:

Festivities kick off at 3:00 p.m. and will include a free Family Fun Zone featuring games, inflatables, giveaways and Try Hockey; a free Family Skate from 4:00–5:00 p.m.; and a free Team Canada pre-competition game Watch Party. The evening will wrap up with live World Junior pre-competition action as Slovakia takes on Czechia, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.

Then, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2, Hockey Alberta will be part of hosting the World Juniors Fan Fest Family Zone outside the Centrium at Westerner Park. The family zone will be a free space and feature interactive activities, games and hockey-themed experiences throughout the tournament.

More details are still to come about the family zone.

Local businesses are invited to participate in these events. If interested, contact Hockey Alberta.
