The Town of Ponoka reports that annual maintenance and facility improvements are set to take place later this month at the Ponoka Aquaplex.

The work will be done from Monday, August 24 to Monday, September 7, with regular operations resuming on Tuesday, September 8. This means the facility will be closed during that time.

The maintenance includes draining, scrubbing and deep cleaning of the hot tub and wading pool, and deep cleaning of the change rooms and washrooms, including floors, walls and lockers. They’ll also scrub and power-wash the pool deck and sauna.

In terms of facility improvements, upgrades to the washrooms next to the Multi-Purpose Room will also be underway.

“The scheduled maintenance and facility improvements are part of the Town’s annual maintenance program that helps ensure the smooth operation of the facility throughout the year, as well as providing optimal service levels and a greatly enhanced user experience for our swimmers,” said Andrew Jones, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities. “August and September are typically a slow time at the Aquaplex with many people either still away on holidays or busily adjusting to the return of school, which is why the work is scheduled at this time.”

During this time, recreation passes for the Aquaplex will be honoured at the Manluk Centre in Wetaskiwin; however, users will be required to present their Aquaplex pass before entering.

In addition, the Ponoka Aquaplex phone line will remain open during the maintenance period, with office hours from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
